Science

Science have shown that tea contains high levels of antioxidants, lowers cholesterol and boosts weight loss.  The high levels of flavonoids in tea can protect cells and tissues from oxidative damage by scavenging oxygen-free radicals. The flavonoid chemicals found in green and black tea are very effective radical scavengers and consistent consumption of tea leads to a significant increase in the antioxidant capacity of the blood.  Antioxidants have been shown to protect DNA damage, boost immune system, and are antiaging.

As the first teas of the year, green teas flush the body of excess bloating and toxins accumulated over the winter, improving complexion and waking the body in the meantime.  Researchers have also found that the green tea polyphenol epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) stops the formation of beta-amyloid plaques — a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease — by interfering with the function of beta-amyloid oligomers.

Darker teas such as black tea, pu’erhs, and roasted oolongs promote promotes weight loss, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, and promotes overall cleansing of our blood. One randomized controlled study found that drinking black tea for 12 weeks significantly decreased triglyceride values by 36%, reduced blood sugar levels by 18% and lowered the LDL/HDL plasma ratio by 17%.

Our  physical health and beauty grows from a clean mind, which in turn gives us a clean body– the two are inseparable– one affects the other in a mutually dynamic way.  Single-leaf teas allows us a way to both cleanse our mind and cleanse our bodies so that we can live and fully enjoy the beauty of this world.

Mind

While science have given us the mechanics of how single-leaf teas can improve our health, it’s our minds which has direct control over our emotions and how we experience our world, which in turn affects our physical body.

While it is easy to speak of “mindfulness” on an abstract level, it is actually difficult to practice mindfulness in daily life. In an ideal world we would all carve out time to meditate. But in reality our frenetic lives and schedules often demand our constant attention. A dedicated time to medicate may seem like a luxury, even when it is necessary.

Ver té’s aim is to actualize a moment of mindfulness and a touch of poetic zen, to the reality of our contemporary lives. Our teas ask that we take five minutes to focus just on them, to allow them the opportunity to tell you their stories, and in the process allow ourselves a few minutes to be mindful of our mind, and our body. We may not have the time to sit and mediate, but we can all give ourselves the gift of a few minutes to clean our bodies, and clean our minds.

If in the few moments it takes to boil the water, brew the tea, and pour it into a cup, we can bring you a sense of harmony, beauty, and poetry, then we have fulfilled our mission.

Nurture through Nature

Tea is nature’s gift to us. It nurtures us through our body but it also nurtures us through our mind, if we let it. In times of anxiety, stress and general whirlwind of our contemporary world, tea is a pause, it brings awareness of our surroundings, and of ourselves.
